It is finally here! I know some folks have been waiting quite a while for this installment of the Tile Engine Tutorial Series, and it is now up and available.

In part 4, we cover Isometric tile maps, with a great tileset from OpenGameArt.org. We will look at basic terrain tiles and the move on to "3D-ish" stacking tiles.

Check out the new installment on the Tutorials, or jump right to Part 4.

Looks good, I'll be working through it when I have more time. The tiles are fantastic too. In response to where it should be taken, if time permits I think it'd be helpful to see all of the suggested routes. Possibly by combining some of them and writing the tutorial that way? Such as, Serializing and Deserializing map files for long-term storage and Building a functional map editor into one tutorial; Embedding data into the map to represent details about what the map cell contains and Handling non-terrain objects and objects larger than a single tile into another tutorial; and finally controlling a character on the map. Anyway, just a thought. Love the series, thanks for putting them together!

For my own project I would really like to know displaying a player image that moves.

Also how to store some data with each iso tile.

If player A has a random encounter on iso 56,13 I want the game to know what combat map to draw based on the terrain that occupies 56,13.
